Stay Productive - Turn Off All Those Notifications
You've got notifications from your phone, your computer, your iPad...whatever it is, it's distracting and annoying. So put your iPad away, turn extra apps on your laptop off, and but your iPhone into Do Not Disturb mode.Every time you stop to look at a text message, you're losing time and focus. Tisk tisk.
Stay Productive - Close All the Extra Tabs
There is rarely a time where my Google Chrome browser has less than 10 tabs open. Because I might need this thing later. But dude, if you need it later, just open it again. Chrome remembers it. It's not lost. Those extra tabs are going to distract you and suck you in. You just know they will. So shut them down and leave open only the ones that are directly relevant to the task at hand.
Stay Productive - Put on Headphones
A good pair of noise-canceling headphones can do wonders. Even small noises around you can distract your brain from what it's supposed to be doing.I'm a fan of these badboys from Amazon:
Stay Productive - Put on a Good Playlist
Along with the headphones, it helps me to put on a good focusing playlist. Some people can listen to any music and work at the same time, but for me I have a hard time listening to music with lyrics while I work. My brain just gets too distracted. That's why I like Brain.fm. It has special Focus playlists - music without lyrics - that work really well for me.
Stay Productive - Take Small Timed Breaks
I find it helpful to take small scheduled breaks. I give myself 5 minutes at a scheduled time to go look at my phone or whatever strikes my fancy. I'm better able to focus if I'm not constantly worried about missing what's going on over in Phone Land.
That's my little routine. How about you? How do you stay productive when working from home? Let me know in the comments!
